This video installation reflects on the Finnish word, Salahoune, which in english could be translated as “secret room”. This word derives from a time when humans lived in closer proximity to each other. The word “secret” in this context does not, however, refer to the act of elimination as something secret. Instead it refers to the privy as a space for intimate conversations.
The video installation explores the modern public toilet space as a contemporary secret room (salahuone). What do people do there? The scenes are based on real-life stories.
